Milenia Muslim March issue publishes two articles (in Malay) by two ISDEV members. The first article is on Hisbah by ISDEV ASTS Fellow Azrin Ibrahim, while the second on the defect of mainstream Islamic economics by ISDEV Director Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh. Azrin deliberates the ability of Hisbah in diagnosing the problems and prescribing the solutions to socio-economic and political chaos, while Professor Muhammad Syukri highlights the first defect of mainstream Islamic economics relating to its mould. The latter has mentioned seven defects of mainstream Islamic economics altogether, the six of which will be subsequently appear in the coming issues of Milenia Muslim as a series, InshaAllah.

The signing of the MoU in progress, witnessed by the Penang TYT, Tun Dato' Seri Utama (Dr) Hj Abdul Rahman Hj Abbas 5 Jan 2012 - In conjunction with the Vice Chancellor Annual Message at DTSP USM, Pulau Pinang, a signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) and ISDEV was held. The 5-year MoU consists of an agreement between both parties to publish 20 titles of books, of which ISDEV agrees to write/provide the book manuscripts while the DBP agrees to publish them. The MOU was signed by USM Vice Chancellor Professor Dato' Dr Omar Osman on behalf of ISDEV and the Director of DBP Tarmizi Hj Aziz on behalf of DBP. Ideas of three ISDEV members have appeared in the January 2012 issue of Milenia Muslim . Prof Muhammad Syukri Salleh in his column talked about the implications of halal foods; Dr Zahri Hamat talked about the rate of zakat; and Ustaz Mohd Shukri Hanapi talked about the desire for consumption. The collection of the book proposals Subsequent to two workshops, the first on manuscript acquisition organised by the School of Humanities and Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) on 24-25 May 2011, and the second on book titles' revision by ISDEV and DBP on 22 September 2011, a total of 19 book titles have been developed by 17 ISDEV members for publication by the DBP. The titles were presented and approved by DBP officers during the second Worskhop. The collection of all the 19 titles in hard and softcopy was submitted by ISDEV Director Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh during a meeting with DBP in Kuala Lumpur on 14th October 2011. A Memorandum of Understanding between the DBP and ISDEV is expected to be signed in mid-December 2011. The 19 books are planned to be launched at the end of 2012, InshaAllah.

Some of ISDEV members listening to DBP's lecture On 24 and 25 May, 2011, ISDEV members were at the Bengkel Pemerolehan Manuskrip (Manuscript Acquisition Workshop) jointly organized by the Dewan Bahasa & Pustaka (DBP) and the School of Humanities, Universiti Sains Malaysia. The 19 strong members were briefed by the editorial personnel of DBP on the procedures and process involved prior to submission of any manuscripts. ISDEV members learnt that the secret yet first essential step towards a successful approved manuscript is in the title. During the second day members were grouped together by DBP at the Conference Room of PPIK and were guided to the formal process of submitting manuscripts in the form prescribed by DBP. All members presented their proposed title of the manuscripts to the DBP officer, totalling 17 altogether. This has definitely paved the way for ISDEV publication relationship with DBP. ISDEV is now having a journal called Journal of Islamic Development Politics (JISDEV). It is a bi-annual journal, co-published in Indonesia with Centre for Islamic Political Development (CISDEV) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and Graduate Programme of Universitas Medan Area (UMA), in English and Indonesian languages. The journal was launched by ISDEV Director Professsor Muhammad Syukri Salleh, who is also the Chairman of the journal's Board of Advisors, on 15 March 2011 during the International Workshop on Islamic-Based Development (WAPI) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Indonesia. The first issue of the journal was out in January this year, containing 4 articles in Indonesian language and 2 articles in English. Some of the participants of the Workshop On Thursday, 30 April 2009, a total of 15 participants attended a Workshop on Zakat Transformation organised by ISDEV and Pusat Urus Zakat (PUZ) Negeri Pulau Pinang. Held at the School of Social Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia, the Workshop was intended to stretch out ideas on the transformation of zakat, from subsistence zakat to productive zakat, to be compiled in an edited book by PUZ in conjunction with its 15th Anniversary. The Workshop was chaired by ISDEV Director Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh and participated by General Managers of Pusat Pungutan Zakat (PPZ) Wilayah Persekutuan, Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) and Baitulmal Sarawak, as well as academicians from Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Kolej Universiti Islam Selangor (KUIS) and officer from Jabatan Wakaf, Zakat dan Haji (JAWHAR).
