ISDEV's fraternity and guests breaking the fas t 10 August The calmness of USM Banquet Hall was turned into a remarkable moment when over 100 ISDEV students and guests gathered together to break the fast and performed the Maghrib prayers congregationally. The event was made more meaningful when the Dean of Institute of Postgraduate Studies (IPS), Professor Roshada Hashim and her family members attended as the VIP guests of ISDEV IFTAR . Also in attendance at this event were ISDEV Director, Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh and his family members and Deputy Director Dr. Fadzila Azni Ahmad. ISDEV new family member: Brother Khairul's son on ISDEV Director's lap at the gathering A belated but memorable news! On Wednesday, 22 September, 2010 ISDEV held a Hari Raya get-together to its fraternity. It was one of the activities organized with the aim to provide the platform for ISDEV members to bind further the ukhuwwah (Islamic brotherhood). It was held at the Banquet Hall of Universiti Sains Malaysia. ISDEV members and their families gathered at the Hall by 7:00pm and the event started off with performing the Maghrib prayer congregationally. A short tazkirah by ISDEV PhD Candidate Warjio ensued immediately thereafter. As the time for ‘Isya had beckoned members to perform, this was also done congregationally. Before members were allowed to taste the scrumptious food that had been specially ordered for this occasion, ISDEV lecturers followed by representatives of ISDEV students gave a very short but affable Hari Raya greetings to all those who were present. The Iftar ISDEV organized its annual Iftar (Break of Fast) programme this year on Friday 20 August, 2010. It was held at the Banquet Hall of USM. It was well attended by ISDEV members and guests who included staff from the School of Social Sciences and the spouses and children of ISDEV lecturers and students. The close knit ties were really felt alive that night as ISDEV members mingled and sealed the bond of brotherhood with one another. This feeling of Islamic ukhuwwah was fortified with the congregational prayers of the compulsory prayers of Maghrib and Isya’ and followed by the nawafil (recommended) Tarawikh prayers performed at the Banquet Hall. There were three imam (head) for that night, Dr Miftahurrohim, Ustaz Shahir and Ustaz Taha who took turns to lead the congregational prayers. It has been said that time and tide waits for no man. ISDEV is surely not exempted from the ticking of time too. Amidst the apparent silence ISDEV has been a buzzed with activities in these past three months. In August, whilst the majority of USM fraternity were basking in the mid-semester break, ISDEV members were busy organizing and simultaneously participating in the 4th International Graduate Workshop held at Dewan Persidangan Universiti, USM on 18 – 19 August, 2009. A total of 61 working papers were presented of which participants from varied international background congregated at the said workshop. There were two keynote addresses which were aptly themed on “Academic Integrity”. Director of ISDEV, Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh, the first key note speaker talked about Academic Integrity in Writing whilst the second key note speaker, Dr. Mohammad Zaini bin Abdu Bakar delivered his address on the second day about Academic Integrity in Research. During the first day of Eid Mubarak on 1 October 2008, after Eid prayer at Universiti Sains Malaysia's mosque, foreign ISDEV members and friends gathered at ISDEV Director Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh's house to celebrate the Eid together. They were ISDEV Post-Doctoral Fellows from Pakistan, ISDEV Research Officer from Libya, and graduate students and ISDEV friends from Indonesia and Japan. They were accompanied by their wives and children.

On 12 September 2008, ISDEV organised an iftar evening, an occasion held every Ramadhan since the outset of the establishment of ISDEV. About 50 participants consisting of ISDEV Management Committee Members, ISDEV Fellows, ISDEV Post-Doctoral Fellow, ISDEV Research Associates, ISDEV Research Officers, ISDEV supporting staff, Islamic Development Management graduate students, School of Social Sciences staff and their wives and children gathered at Interactive Hall, School of Social Sciences to break their fast together. Tarawih prayer was also held after the breaking of the fast.

In conjunction with the fasting month of Ramadhan, ISDEV is organising an iftar (breaking of fast) evening on Friday, 12 September 2008. Prior to that, in the morning, there will be a Monthly Graduate Supervision for the month of September.

On Tuesday 25 September 2007, Teratai Room at Chancellory was packed with more than 40 ISDEV members and friends attending ISDEV Annual Iftar. Guests of honour were Vice-Chancellor Professor Dato' Dzulkifli Abdul Razak, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs and Development) Associate Professor Dr Omar Osman and Dean of the School of Social Sciences Associate Professor Dr Ismail Baba. The occasion was an annual occasion organized in every Ramadhan of the year. It began with iftar (breaking of fast), followed by maghrib prayer, dinner, isyak prayer and finally by tarawih prayer led by ISDEV Fellow Associate Professor Haji Sibly Maros and assisted by ISDEV Research Associate Zubir Idris. ISDEV is grateful to the organising committee led by Dr Zakaria Bahari and thankful to generous donors who made this occasion possible.
